OSLO, 7 July 2010 – OSCE PA Secretary General R. Spencer Oliver was re-elected on Tuesday, 6 July, as the Assembly’s Secretary General for another five-year term.The Standing Committee, which consists of the Assembly's 55 heads of delegation, met in connection with the Parliamentary Assembly’s 19th Annual Session taking place 6-10 July in Oslo.Mr. Oliver (United States) received more than ninety-five per cent of the votes in the Assembly’s Standing Committee after a vigorous debate.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Committee unanimously approved 35 Supplementary Items for general debate, dealing with a wide range of topics. The chair of the Rules Sub-Committee, Pia Christmas-Moeller (Denmark), reported that the Sub-Committee was considering a number of changes to the Rules of Procedure, and would continue deliberations at the Fall Meetings in Palermo.
The Standing Committee's meeting also included OSCE PA Treasurer Roberto Battelli's report on the financial health of the Assembly and answering related questions. The budget for the 2010-2011 Fiscal Year was frozen and approved unanimously.
