COPENHAGEN, 26 March 2025 – The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Democracy, Human Rights, and Humanitarian Questions Committee Chair Lucie Potůčková (Czech Republic), Vice-Chair Sargis Khandanyan (Armenia) and Rapporteur Carina Ödebrink (Sweden) condemn Hungary’s recent legislation banning Pride marches:
“This ban is the latest in a series of measures targeting LGBTQ+ individuals in Hungary. It constitutes a clear violation of fundamental freedoms, particularly the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, and directly contradicts Hungary’s OSCE commitments.
It is equally concerning that this law was fast-tracked through Parliament by the ruling party, raising serious questions about the state of democratic governance and the rule of law.
We strongly encourage the Hungarian Parliament to repeal these laws and ensure that the country’s legal framework aligns with international human rights standards, guaranteeing equal rights and protection for all individuals.”
