COPENHAGEN, 21 June 2010 – The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative for Central Asia, Kimmo Kiljunen (Finland), will be in Kyrgyzstan from 22 to 24 June 2010 to meet with a range of political interlocutors, including representatives of the Provisional Government, political parties, media, and non-government organizations.
The visit is part of the Assembly’s efforts to support a process of political reconciliation in the run-up a key parliamentary election in the region scheduled for October. Last month, the Assembly held roundtable discussions with political forces in the country, and this visit is intended to further support democratic processes in Kyrgyzstan.
The Assembly will debate a resolution on the situation in Kyrgyzstan at its Annual Session in Oslo, 6-10 July 2010.
This week’s visit is facilitated by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, one of the largest OSCE field missions.
