COPENHAGEN, 23 April 2017 – OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Christine Muttonen (MP, Austria) responded today following a tragic incident today in Ukraine, in which an OSCE Special Monitoring Mission vehicle drove over a landmine resulting in the death of a patrol member and the injury of another.
“Along with the whole OSCE family, I am deeply saddened by today’s news from Ukraine. The death of one of our colleagues carrying out a vital mission comes as a shock to us all. My heartfelt condolences go out to the victim’s family, and I hope that the injured enjoys a full and a speedy recovery. I also echo the statement by the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz urging a thorough investigation and to hold those responsible accountable,” Muttonen said.
President Muttonen is in Copenhagen today and will address a meeting of the Assembly’s Bureau on Monday.
