The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Programme Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism and the UNOCT Cybersecurity & New Technologies Unit, with the support of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar, and in collaboration with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA) and the Italian Parliament, organize the Fourth Parliamentary Policy Dialogue, dedicated to “The Countering the Use of AI and New Technologies for Terrorist Purposes”. It takes place in Rome, Italy, on 5 December 2024, at the Italian Parliament.

OBJECTIVE
The objectives of the Parliamentary Policy Dialogue are to:
- Consider and discuss the main global and regional issues and threats, associated with the misuse of AI and other new technologies by terrorist and violent extremist groups and organisations;
- Review and discuss the relevant national, regional, international legal framework and recommendations on the prevention and countering the use of AI by terrorist and extremist organisations;
- Deliberate on the existing good practices in the development of legislation and regulation in the prevention and countering the use of AI and other new technologies by terrorist and extremist organisations, as well as on the regulation on the use of AI by security organs of Member States for counter-terrorism and preventive measures;
- Discuss the role and possible contribution of parliamentary assemblies and national parliaments in the prevention and countering the use of AI and other new technologies by terrorist and extremist organisations.
