The COVID-19 pandemic has placed concerns related to health at the top of the global political agenda. Responses to the pandemic have varied significantly, but 2020 has demonstrated that health is not only a question of peoples’ rights, but of security and stability of societies. In practice, however, effective health services continue to be a dream rather than a reality for many people in the OSCE region and beyond.
Under the auspices of the Bureau of the OSCE PA’s Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions, a webinar on Friday 4 June will offer policymakers in the OSCE region a platform to discuss challenges faced in delivering health security to all. The event will also serve as an opportunity to learn about the UHC2030 international health partnership aimed at achieving universal health coverage.
The meeting will feature welcoming remarks from Cypriot parliamentarian Kyriakos Hadjiyianni, Chair of the OSCE PA’s Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions; and presentations by Gabriela Cuevas Barron, Co-Chair of the UHC2030 international health partnership; Francesca Colombo, Head of the OECD Health Division; and Kyle Knight, Senior Researcher on Health and Human Rights at Human Rights Watch; followed by an open discussion with parliamentarians from across the OSCE area.
OSCE PA Vice-President and human rights committee Rapporteur Kari Henriksen (Norway) will also make some concluding remarks.
